In 1995, Jefferson Healthcare constructed a new surgical area, with three state-of-the-art surgical suites and one special-procedures room. The surgery suites include the latest equipment and instruments and are on a par with much larger hospitals. They are clean and spacious, with sanitary air flow and excellent lighting.
The surgical unit offers multiple levels of care, including special procedures, same-day surgery, a.m.-admit patients, emergency patients, and in-patient surgeries. Scheduling of cases is done on referral from our surgeons.
The hospital currently has two general surgeons, two orthopedic surgeons, a urologist, a podiatrist, and a gynecologist who perform over 175 surgeries and special procedures a month.
Surgeons
The surgical team includes registered nurses who are certified in advanced cardiac life support. Several of the nurses are certified registered nurse anesthetists, and two are certified to assist in surgery.
Procedures frequently performed at Jefferson Healthcare are
- general surgery, such as cancer surgery; hernia repair; gallbladder removal; ear, nose, and throat procedures; podiatric cases; and many minimally invasive procedures;
- orthopedic procedures, such as fractures or total hip, knee, and shoulder replacement;
- arthroscopic procedures on knees, shoulders, ankles, and wrists;
- urological procedures, such as prostate or bladder surgeries;
- gynecological/breast procedures, such as cancer surgery, sentinel node biopsies, hysterectomies, C-sections, and tubal ligations; and
- special procedures, such as colonoscopies, therapeutic and diagnostic endoscopy, and bone marrow biopsies.
